And so it begins....

Right, so this is a blog I have set up to keep track of my research and development for my personal project. This is a double credit for my final year of BA Visual Communication and Digital Publishing.

For the personal project I have adapted a current brief from Roses Design Awards
The brief was very simple, and only said "Design an advertising campaign for the retro sweet website www.aquarterof.co.uk"

I have changed this brief to make it more specific and suit it to me. here is the full write up of the brief I had to submit:
A Quarter Of  is a web based sweet store that has been serving its customers with retro and nostalgic sweets for years, boasting a wide and varied range of sweets – from Sherbet lemons to Milk teeth! The website also provides unique party favours and gifts such as retro sweet hampers and personalised love hearts.

The current target market for A Quarter Of  is from 30 to 50 years old, as many of them growing up in the sixties to eighties will have memories of the sweets featured on this website, and are be paying for the nostalgia as much as they are for a packet of sweets.

The company intends to update its image, hoping to make it appealing to younger audiences and provide them with a taste of previous generations.  This will be done with the following:

-A new branding for the company
-New packaging for the sweets
-A print based advertising campaign

The rebranding should suit a contemporary design style, while still feeling retro and nostalgic enough to previous decades, so as not to alienate any of the company’s existing clientele but still bring in younger generations. Primarily the rebrand will be the logo, but a continued style, layout or colour schemes in the designs should be considered to ensure the work is consistent.
The second part of the brief is to design  new packaging for their sweets, specifically the classic measuring of a quarter (250g) This packaging must keep true to the style of the rebrand, while still being sustainable and robust enough to withstand the shipping process. The packaging is required to be sealable and have adequate space reserved for a postage label. Although, this packaging will not be applicable to all of the websites sweets range, its design should be focused at packaging loose sweets.

The final stage of the brief is the advertising campaign; this stage will be aimed at showing off the new brand as much as it is about advertising the website. The design should be captivating and be easily distinguishable against current advertisements. The print ads should again convey the theme of the new brand, to ensure the designs are consistent and all follow the same theme.
